Case study: machine maintenance
Injury Management Program Reduces Annual Losses from $163,675 to $6,074
Five states, no on-site claims supervisor anywhere, and $163,675 in claims in one year. The fix was to run it like one building.
Start a conversationThe Employer Success ProgramThe business
Machine maintenance company with 130 employees in five states and annual revenues of about $9 million.
The situation
As a multi-state risk, the company was having a hard time with injury management, especially with no on-site claims supervisor at any location. Claims totaled $163,675 in 2005.
What we found
After the Risk Management and HR Assessment, we determined the company needed full injury management services. It had a great HR department, but HR did not have the claims handling knowledge it needed, and management did not see how each claim affected overall cost. So we built a plan to treat every situation as if all the employees were under one roof.
What we did
We set up a four-step process for handling injuries across locations:
- Trained a designated Claims Coordinator to oversee all claims, in place of processing claims through each location's HR department.
- Made the Claims Coordinator proactive and the key contact with the injured worker, medical staff, HR and the insurance adjuster.
- Started a medical clinic relationship in each state.
- Put in a Zero Lost Time program, with jobs linked across the business so people could get back to work faster.
The result
$163,675 to $6,074
Annual losses in two years
Losses of $163,675 dropped to $18,611 the next year and $6,074 the year after. The experience modifier, which was 0.97, was expected to drop to 0.83, for an annual savings of $51,334.
Where the Employer Success Program comes in
It starts with a Diagnostic and Plan. We read your loss runs, your mod worksheet and your key contracts, and we talk with the people who run the work. You get the pattern behind your claims and a short list of what's worth fixing first.
From there our claims, HR, safety and fleet people work alongside yours, and you get a Score Card at the start and every year after, measured against your own starting point.
